ASTON—Technology Showcase @ IBC2013 (Of SatBroadcasting™ Interest—Digital Receivers)

[SatNews] IBC 2013 will mark several milestones for ASTON, who will be introducing its new ranges of digital receiver solutions for 2014, available on both terrestrial and satellite platforms.

ASTON will introduce XENA® HD Twin Connect. This HbbTV 1.5 hybrid multi-room satellite platform incorporates DRM support, enabling rights management and security of downloaded content. This is the only platform on the market to combine all of this functionality with Viaccess ACS 5.0 and Conax Contego conditional access systems. XENA® HD Twin Connect, presented here in its FRANSAT version, was designed in less than one year thanks to the all-out effort of ASTON’s development teams. The result is a true compendium of the best of current technology: dual tuner, PVR-Ready, HbbTV 1.5, DRM support, Push VOD, and ground-breaking secure multi-room functionality. The receiver will be on sale from November 2013.

In partnership with Viaccess, the ASTON booth will be showcasing the first ever satellite receiver on the market to incorporate BCCL card-less decryption technologies. This is XENA® HD Twin Connect’s card-less version. Thanks to this technology, no smart card is needed to watch encrypted programming. Encrypted content security is built directly into the receiver, thus offering protection in line with operators’ security requirements. It means a simpler use for consumer. ASTON has also incorporated this technology into its full range of receivers, as well as its new range of CI+ 1.3 CAMs. The brand will therefore be the first ever to offer operators such a wide choice and such a complete range of card-less receiver solutions.

On its booth, ASTON will also unveil its complete range of platforms for receiving and decrypting contents using Conax Contego technology: ASTON can offer the widest range of solutions on the market, from CI+ 1.3 CAMs to HbbTV 1.5 hybrid dual tuner platform. Already available in Viaccess ACS 5.0 version, the XENA HD Twin Connect Conax Contego version once again proves ASTON’s ability to break new technological ground by both developing and renewing its strategic partnerships. ASTON has also incorporated the Conax Contego system into its range of CI+ 1.3 CAMS, as well as into the MAYA HD receiver, the new entry-level product in ASTON’s range. All of these platforms are compatible with satellite or terrestrial reception.
