Global Satellite's ComCenter Heads To The Sea For Ships
Global Satellite USA has launched their ComCenter ‘Outdoor’, a complete Iridium voice and data satellite network, designed for the harshest of environments found at sea. The ComCenter Outdoor is easy to install as it requires no antenna cabling. The water tight and weather resistant unit comes with a built-in antenna housed in a white case. The installation does not require multiple cables — just one is needed with the ComCenter Outdoor. The unit provides an interface between the Iridium satellite network and the Standard Telephone Handsets for voice, and IP (Internet Protocol) for data. The ComCenter Outdoor allows single analog or multi-handset wireless base station interface via the RJ-11 port. Employees or crew can use calling cards or activate a line with a pre-assigned 7 digit calling ID, bypassing the calling card. With “smart dialing”, the ComCenter Outdoor knows the correct country code format and places the call once the number is entered. With regards to data, the ComCenter Outdoor connectivity is accessible through an Ethernet infrastructure, with scalable data transfer speeds. The standard data speed of the Iridium network is limited to 2400 Baud per connection (9600 with Iridium Direct Internet 2.0 compression). The data connect feature of the ComCenter Outdoor allows users to make direct data connections with Internet service providers. Such connections allow access to the internet and the retrieval of e-mail. Users can also send SMS text messages.
