To apply, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students nationwide are invited to illustrate the importance of math in the world around them. Applications will be accepted through February 7, 2014.
Student submissions will be evaluated on creativity, originality, time commitment and the use of math equations to demonstrate an enthusiasm for the subject. Up to 150 students will be awarded $1,000 scholarships each to be used for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) camp programs or college education. In addition, the students' schools will receive matching grants of $1,000 for math-related programs.
"Math shapes the world around us," said Pamela Erickson, Raytheon's vice president of Corporate Affairs. "By encouraging students to explore how math works in their daily lives, we hope to broaden their interest in math and related subjects."
