Cobham SATCOM—Technology Showcase @ IBC2013 (SATCOM)

[SatNews] Visitors to IBC 2013 can witness the fastest ever BGAN live streaming for the first time as Inmarsat and Cobham SATCOM demonstrate the broadcasting potential of the new BGAN high data rate streaming service.

Daily demos will take place at 12:00 and 3:00 p.m. on the Inmarsat stand using the brand new, ultra-portable Cobham SATCOM EXPLORER 710; the only BGAN high data rate streaming service compatible satcoms terminal available.

EXPLORER 710 provides streaming rates over 650 kbps out of the box, when using the new BGAN high data rate streaming service, which is officially launched at IBC 2013. Available to order at the end of September 2013, EXPLORER 710 enables the fastest on-demand video streaming via satellite with guaranteed QoS.

In a forthcoming free software update, EXPLORER 710 will gain the added ability to bond the signals from multiple terminals via Ethernet and achieve IP streaming rates on the BGAN high data rate streaming service of 1 Mbps or even higher.

As the world’s smallest and lightest Class 1 BGAN terminal and the first platform to make use of BGAN high data rate streaming as standard, the EXPLORER 710 is positioned to support broadcasters in enhancing the quality of mobile outside broadcasting.

As well as enabling the fastest BGAN live streaming ever, EXPLORER 710 introduces Smart Phone apps to the world of BGAN connectivity, enabling users to connect their own devices for voice calling and connectivity.

In addition to demos on the Inmarsat stand (2.B19), EXPLORER 710 will also be displayed on the Cobham SATCOM stand (1.F41) during IBC 2013.
