Surrey Satellite Technology | SST-US—Moving On Up, Gerull To COO (Business)

[SatNews] Surrey Satellite Technology US LLC (SST-US) has announced that Doug Gerull has been named chief operating officer.

In this capacity, Gerull is assisting SST-US in building out its U.S. manufacturing capacity and cultivating the markets for satellite technology within the U.S. commercial, civil government, and Department of Defense sectors.

"Doug’s extensive combination of executive leadership and engineering experience is helping Surrey identify opportunities and close business cases in the provision of innovative satellite missions, subsystems, and components to private sector and defense organizations in the United States,” said SST-US CEO Dr. John Paffett.

SST-US is a wholly owned subsidiary of Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. in the United Kingdom. Established in Colorado in 2008 to serve the rapidly growing market for small satellite technology, SST-US is leveraging a 41-mission legacy of international success to develop cost-effective satellites for Earth observation, navigation, telecommunications, and scientific applications. The U.S. firm opened its first U.S. spacecraft integration facility in Englewood, Colorado, in April 2013.

Doug Gerull’s career spans large corporate and start-up environments with particular emphasis on geospatial technologies. He cofounded and served as a director of DigitalGlobe (initially WorldView), and, prior to that, was executive vice president of Intergraph Corporation in charge of its Mapping Sciences Division, responsible for development of geospatial software and hardware systems worldwide. He also served as a group manager for Carl Zeiss where he managed distribution of aerial sensors and measurement systems for civilian and military programs. Gerull is a graduate in photogrammetric engineering from the International Institute for Aerospace Survey and Earth Sciences (ITC) in The Netherlands and holds patents in methods for relational and object data base integration.
