...Innovation Award made to Iridium Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: IRDM) for its Netted Iridium(sm) (Distributed Tactical Communications System or DTCS) product, which combines voice communication and positioning services with less-than-two-second push-to-talk capability all in a portable, hand-held device. The 2012 MSUA Pioneer Awards was made to Geoff Hall and Tom Tycz. The MSUA-9 conference is being held in conjunction with SATELLITE 2012 Conference and Exhibition and includes a luncheon on Tuesday, March 13th, at which the awards will be presented.
Commenting on the awards, MSUA President Tim Farrar said, “2012 is the fifth year in which MSUA has presented its annual Innovation Award and this year we are delighted to recognize Netted Iridium, which has provided critical, life saving communications to US forces in Afghanistan and around the world. We are also conferring MSUA’s Pioneer Award on two very worthy recipients this year. Geoff Hall has been involved in the MSS community since its earliest days, serving on the board of Inmarsat and several other satellite operators, and acting as MSUA’s European representative in regulatory forums for the last 20 years. Tom Tycz was involved in all aspects of the allocation and regulation of mobile satellite services (MSS) during his 30 year career at the FCC, and was instrumental in securing international MSS allocations and in coordinating US MSS Satellite systems in the Little LEO, Big LEO and 2GHz MSS bands.”
The ninth international Mobile Satellite Users Conference and Exhibition, MSUA-9, provides a unique opportunity for users and providers of mobile satellite communications. MSUA-9 is the only forum devoted exclusively to the mobile satellite industry, and features panel discussions and demonstrations of satellite terminals from many companies. Tickets to the luncheon are included with MSUA-9 Conference registration, or can be purchased a la carte.
