Bye Aerospace—Silent Guardian Empowers Solar-Electric ISR (UAV | UAS)

[SatNews] Bye Aerospace, Inc. announced it has transitioned into the detailed design phase for its solar-electric hybrid unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) project called Silent Guardian.

Silent Guardian is configured to provide global range for persistent Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) to support defense and security requirements.

Kerry Beresford, Senior Vice President of Government Programs for Bye Aerospace, said the next evolution in aircraft design is persistent flight using clean, renewable energy. “Remarkable opportunities have created these innovations.” he said. “Silent Guardian represents such an evolution through hybrid propulsion design to offer a level of performance and capability that will literally redefine what constitutes a typical ISR mission.”

Potential mission applications for Silent Guardian include border patrol and homeland security, coast guard search and rescue, and visual and thermal reconnaissance. Potential civil applications include maritime anti-piracy patrol, wildlife and natural resource monitoring, disaster relief and communications restoration, forest fire detection, weather monitoring and aerial photography.

George E. Bye, CEO of Bye Aerospace, said he is impressed with the overall aerospace industry’s progress of integrating more efficient technologies to UAV platforms. “The applications and missions for UAV aircraft appear to be growing as airborne persistence is enhanced,” he said. “Silent Guardian is a unique hybrid platform to serve these growing mission requirements.”
