SatNet Management Suite Brings Parallell Efforts To Ship Equip

Parallel has signed a contract with Ship Equip, Norway, to supply the Company's enterprise grade satellite network management software suite, SatManage. With this contract, Parallel’s share in the maritime satellite communications industry has increased 34 percent within 12 months of its foray into this market segment. Parallel had started the year with a focus to acquire new business in the Maritime sector, given their previous success in the Oil & Gas industry where they already have market leading companies such as Schlumberger DMS and Stratos Global on their customer list.

Ship Equip is one of the fastest growing iDirect users in the shipping industry and have become the second largest maritime satellite communications operator (in terms of the number of vessels under contract) in less than 4 years of entering the business. They provide services on the iDirect platform as a Virtual Network Operator (VNO) and offer global coverage through several hubs. The hubs include Arqiva (U.K.) and Intelsat. SatManage will act as a manager of managers integrating all existing tools and vendors across the entire Network Operations Centre into one fully automated ‘umbrella system’ or portal, significantly reducing wastage and adding many exciting features. One of the key issues facing Ship Equip was their use of services on multiple satellites, each with its own iDirect Network Management System (NMS). Preparing a report to view the number of active iDirect sites meant collating data from each NMS manually and such could requires as much as two man days. SatManage is designed to work with iDirect systems out of the box and makes all reports instantly available, all of the time, no matter how many NMS’ and what mix of versions are in use.
