  • Financially Speaking — Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) announced a 2008 second quarter income of $19 million, (after a $12 million provision for employee-related expenses and recording of accounting losses, in consequence of the strengthening of the NIS vis-a-vis the USD, in an amount of approx. $36 million), as compared with $ 14 million for the second quarter of 2007, an increase of 36 percent. Company sales for the second quarter of 2008 reached $891 million compared with $790 million, a 13 per cent increased from the 2007 second quarter. IAI's back log of orders totaled approximately $7.8 billion as of June 30, 2008, representing an 8 per cent increased from June 30, 2007.   • dtac To Deliver 3G To Thailand — Thailand's National Telecommunications Commission has approved Telenor subsidiary dtac's plans to upgrade its existing 800MHz network with the High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA), or third generation services (3G). dtac will build approximately 1,200 new base stations during the first phase of the upgrade plan, at an estimated cost of approximately five million baht. Initially, dtac will introduce 3G services into Bangkok, Phuket, and Chon Buri, which are major provinces with high market demands. The company is confident that it will complete the installation and launch commercial services within one year after obtaining official approval. The CEO of dtac, Sigve Brekke, thanks the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) for valuing the importance of the telecom industry of Thailand and for promoting fair competition in the business.

  • Moving On Up — Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has appointed David R. Apt, Catherine Lamb-Heinz, and Daniel J. McClain as vice presidents of communications. Apt was named as vice president of communications for the company's Technical Services sector and will report to James L. Cameron, corporate vice president and president of Technical Services. Lamb-Heinz was appointed vice president of communications for the Electronic Systems sector and will report to James F. Pitts, corporate vice president and president of Electronic Systems. McClain was named vice president of enterprise communications and will report to Darryl M. Fraser, corporate vice president of communications.
