Efficient Channel Coding (ECC), a ViaSat company, has introduced a multi-stream extraction feature that enables its ECC3100 Digital Video Broadcast Satellite standard (DVB-S2) receiver chip to extract multiple data streams from a single DVB-S2 input. Embedding multi-stream soft-IP into the receiver FPGA eliminates the need to use multiple DVB-S2 application specific integrated circuits (ASICs), reducing circuit board size and cost. ECC has tested and verified the DVB-S2 multi-stream receiver chip by extracting multiple MPEG transport streams from a DVB-S2 input waveform. The soft-IP fits into a Virtex4 LX40 FPGA in the ECC3100 evaluation board. The multi-stream soft-IP based code, when used together with ECC3100 chip, enables users to extract multiple data streams by setting the ECC3100 to the transport bypass mode. ECC can customize the number of streams in the soft-IP and assist customers in making the IP fit into the FPGA of their choice.
