NexGen + SESAR Future Demands To Be Met By Luciad

Luciad, based in Belgium, has a core product called LuciadMap. The company’s software components are the building blocks for mission-critical ATC/ATM and Air Command and Control systems. The Company will be presenting its latest innovations in Human-Machine Interface Technology for high performance ATC/ATM systems at ATCA’s Annual Conference & Exhibition from November 3rd through 5th in Washington DC, USA, in Booth #B1009.

At the booth, visitors will experience live showcases of LuciadMap, the company’s flagship software component toolbox for building aeronautical information systems with superior graphical display capabilities that meet the future demands of the American NextGen (Next Generation Air Transportation System) and European SESAR (Single European Sky ATM Research) programs. LuciadMap offers the first available high-performance out-of-the-box decoding and visualization of the new AIXM 5 standard, the aeronautical information format of choice for future ATC/ATM/AIM systems. AIXM (Aeronautical Information Exchange Model) enables the management and distribution of Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) data in digital format. AIXM 5 takes advantages of existing and emerging information engineering standards and supports current and future aeronautical information system requirements. The major tenets include an exhaustive temporality model, including support for the temporary information contained in NOTAM — alignment with ISO standards for geospatial information, including the use of the Geography Markup Language (GML) — support for the latest ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) and user requirements for aeronautical data including obstacles, terminal procedures and airport mapping databases — and modularity and extensibility to support current and future aeronautical information messaging requirements and additional data attributing requirements

LuciadMap can handle large numbers of static and moving data on top of geographical information, including maps, satellite imagery, and terrain elevation in many different formats and references to achieve a high situational awareness. Visitors will have a chance to discover what the AIXM 5 technology offers in terms of handling digital NOTAMs and merging static and dynamic data in a single exchange format. There will also be demonstrations of powerful 2D and 3D simulations of airport operations for performance analysis, precise 4D topology calculations, and a multi-touch, multi-user environment for collaborative planning. All solutions integrate seamlessly in an SOA environment, including support for Rich Internet Applications (RIA).
