SSPI... Dining With Future Leaders (Event)

[SatNews] The Society of Satellite Professionals International has opened nominations for its fifth annual Promise Awards, which honor young leaders in the satellite industry for outstanding achievement. Nominations are also being accepted for the Mentor Awards, which recognize an industry executive for mentoring rising young professionals.

The Awards will be presented at the Future Leaders Dinner on Tuesday, October 12, at The Princeton Club in midtown Manhattan beginning at 6:00 PM (EST). Nomination criteria and forms can be downloaded from www.satfuture.com. Nominations close August 31, 2010.

Nominees for the Promise Award must demonstrate initiative, innovation, creativity and problem-solving skills that positively impact their company’s financial performance, marketing effectiveness, technical advancement or research capabilities. Past winners of Promise Awards have included young employees of Space Systems/Loral, CNN, Boeing Satellite Systems, CapRock Government Solutions, Willis Inspace, Intelsat, Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems, and Futron.

Mentor Award nominees are distinguished by their voluntary contributions to industry causes and track record of coaching, motivating and fostering young professionals to elevate their professional capabilities and leadership potential. Past Mentor Award winners have included Dick Tauber of CNN, Dom Stasi of Avail/TVN, Francesco Frenza of the Cisneros Group, and Andrew Werth of Hughes Network Systems. A portion of the proceeds from the dinner go to SSPI's Educational Fund. This year, as part of its sponsorship of the awards event, SpaceIsle.com will donate an additional $3,000 directly to the Fund in lieu of a guest appreciation gift. SpaceIsle is also SSPI’s Mission Underwriter for 2010. The Educational Fund helps deserving university students meet the high costs of undergraduate and post-graduate study in satellite-related disciplines. The Fund also supports internship opportunities with satellite industry employers; the development of educational content for satellite professionals; and Web-based content that helps students connect with university-level satellite programs and explore career opportunities in the industry.
