Aptilo's Aptitude to Accomodate Due to Digicel’s DigiNET

Digicel Aptilo Networks, provider of solutions for control of billing, user services and access in wireless networks including WiMAX™ and Wi-Fi, announced today that Digicel, the fastest-growing telecommunications operator in the Pacific, is relaunching DigiNET, Digicel’s satellite wireless broadband service in the Kingdom of Tonga, using the Aptilo Carrier Wireless Service Management System™ .

The network utilizes the Motorola Canopy Wireless Broadband System, which uses satellite as the Internet connection out of the islands. Typically, operators must invest in additional, expensive satellite link capacity in order to accommodate increasing bandwidth use. Aptilo’s solution makes this unnecessary and brings a whole new level of flexibility and control to the operation of DigiNET. The Aptilo solution enforces and controls QoS in the network, prioritizing bandwidth according to service levels. This allows Digicel to offer pre-defined guaranteed bandwidth levels to their enterprise and premium customers, delivering a superior user experience without having to purchase more capacity from the satellite link.  It also enables Digicel to offer a tiered service and pricing structure.

Aptilo “Aptilo’s service management solution allows us to deliver consistency in the service we are now providing to our customers,” said David Butler, Chief Executive Officer, Digicel.  “We look forward to exploring all the possibilities now available to us with the Aptilo platform to further enhance our service offerings.”

“With Aptilo’s QoS control, operators using satellite backhaul can offer tiered service levels and guaranteed bandwidth without having to purchase excess bandwidth capacity, which can be very costly,” said Jan Sjonell, Managing Director Asia and Middle East, Aptilo Networks.  “The combination of cost savings on satellite links and new business opportunities offers carriers such as Digicel a very rapid return on investment (ROI).”

The Aptilo Carrier Service Management System is a field-proven, feature-rich state-of-the-art solution for delivering carrier-grade broadband access services in large public, semi-public and private access zones. The solution facilitates easy and scalable service delivery, administration and monitoring.  The Aptilo QoS functionality and access control are features of the Aptilo Access Controller™, which securely communicates with the core component in the solution, the Aptilo Service Management Platform™.

The Aptilo Service Portal™ provides enhanced reporting tools for the Digicel Tonga operations team.  Statistics can be generated to provide a more detailed view of customer data and usage, to help system administrators, customer care staff, and finance, marketing and sales departments to tailor the service to meet changing needs.
