The move toward unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) is certainly one with intense international interest. For example, UAVs may soon be flying in the skies near the city of Chitradurga, India. India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is set to establish a UAV test range facility at Kudapura Kaval. Time to completion is estimated to be about three years with a price tag of Rs 1000 crore on some 4,200 acres of land, purchased by the Indian Ministry of Defence. Power will be provided by the Gas Turbine Research Establishment's (GTRE) Kaveri engine, which yielded positive air worthiness tests in Russia last September. The engine is expected to be fitted to the craft by the end of this year.
