International Space University... Flights Of Fecundity (Launch)

[SatNews] Rockets will be away on August 7th, 2010, at the Jardin des 2 Rives in Strasbourg, France.

The International Space University Space Systems and Engineering Department will host their 2010 Rocket Competition at 5:30 p.m. on that date, courtesy of the university's Space Studies Program (SSP), which is an intense nine-week course for postgraduate students and young professionals. During the SSP, students are trained in various space-related disciplines and interact using their personal skills and background. Workshops in medicine, robotics, communication, astrophysics, telecommunication and others are organized. 121 students from 29 countries are participating in this SSP. The curriculum covers the major space-related fields, both technical and non-technical, and ranges from engineering, physical sciences and satellite applications to life sciences, policy, management and humanities.

The model rocket competition is one of the department’s workshops designed to teach the students how to work as a part of a team in order to successfully launch a model rocket within the specified parameters and meet the assigned requirements. Each team consists of students assigned as payload engineers, propulsion engineers, flight dynamics engineers, and systems engineers and this year they will be launching a model rocket to an altitude of 100 meters ensuring that the payload, a small Alsatian glass, deploys and lands safely. The model rocket workshop makes use of the students’ creativity, knowledge, skills, and teamwork to accomplish a fun and rewarding task. This event is free for public.
