SES WORLD SKIES...Here's To Haiti's Health

[SatNews] Not too big to care, SES WORLD SKIES announced that Partners In Health (PIH) has selected the AMC-6 satellite to expand and enhance mission critical connectivity across Haiti. In the wake of the deadly earthquake that struck Haiti nearly a year ago, PIH has increased its investment in medical teams and dedicated satellite capacity. SES WORLD SKIES, a division of SES S.A. (Euronext Paris and Luxembourg Stock Exchange: SESG) is dedicated to connecting remote areas of the world.

PIH doctors and nurses have long relied on SES WORLD SKIES’ NSS-806 satellite for broadband and videoconferencing capabilities at its hospital in the town of Cange, as part of a capacity deal that was renewed in January. This latest agreement expands the relationship and delivers the fulltime bandwidth PIH medical teams need to provide patient care at 12 more hospitals and clinics in Port-au-Prince, St. Marc, Hinche and other Haitian towns and villages.

Thanks to increased donations from around the world, PIH has added medical teams and upgraded to dedicated satellite bandwidth to provide the best patient care possible in Haiti” said Andrew Marx, Director of Communications for PIH. “SES WORLD SKIES satellites are playing an unprecedented role in our Haitian healthcare operations. The connectivity allows our doctors, nurses and researchers to communicate effectively with colleagues stationed at our Boston headquarters and care sites across Haiti and the world.”

PIH (www.pih.org), in relationship with the Haitian Ministry of Health, has been providing quality community-based health care to the people of Haiti for more than 20 years. Doctors, nurses and employees depend on SES WORLD SKIES’ satellite-delivered broadband and videoconferencing capabilities to track patients, share treatment regimens and research findings, and identify pharmaceutical needs at medical facilities in Haiti.

“Our satellite and teleport networks are playing an increasingly vital role in supporting the incredible life-saving work of PIH throughout Haiti,” said Dolores Martos, Vice President of Latin America and Caribbean sales for SES WORLD SKIES. “The reach, reliability and customized design of our value-added satellite solution enable the effective delivery of telecommunications services from basic broadband connectivity to sophisticated telemedicine links virtually anywhere,” Martos added. “We’re extremely proud of our alliance with PIH, as the organization makes a real difference in Haiti and around the world.”

About AMC-6 and NSS-806 satellites AMC-6 provides high-powered capacity supporting corporate, media, government and occasional use customers. Providing all-digital Ku-band connectivity to millions, AMC-6 has also attracted IP broadband integration platforms, which take advantage of the satellite’s wide coverage and high power levels.

With simultaneous coverage of North America, Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe, NSS-806 is home to more than 180 video feeds which get distributed to the large cable head end neighborhood in Latin America.
