SatBroadcasting: Better Analysis Via Volicon's Observer RPM

Volicon's The Observer RPM is a true content analysis tool as it measures, logs, and streams post-STB audio, video, and metadata.

Volicon Observer RPM The system continuously scans the operator's entire channel lineup around the clock and automatically tests signal integrity, detecting video faults such as black screen, frozen or no video, and violations of audio thresholds. When these errors are detected, the Observer RPM issues alerts (via email, SMS, and SNMP) and bookmarks the problematic content when channels do not conform to prespecified limits. At the upcoming Cable-Tec Expo®, Volicon will introduce a number of new enhancements to the Observer family that give operators even greater control over the quality of their video services.

One is the Proof-of-Experience module, which provides the operator visibility of the customer experience around MPEG impairments. The module works from SNMP traps issued by MPEG transport stream analyzers and records the post set top box audio, video, and metadata. The module enables the operator to identify which MPEG impairments affect the customer experience, saving technician time and resources.

The Interactive Services module offers new capabilities for users of the Observer® RPM to ensure the quality of linear content as well as on-demand and interactive content and advertising. Through scripting and graphical pattern matching enhancements, the module enables operators to periodically test on-demand and interactive elements along side linear lineups. By providing automated periodic post-STB verification of these services, along with a 24x7 log, operators can ensure the proper availability and customer experience with these new, critical services. Other new modules include Component and HDMI HD Monitoring, Virtual Remote Control, and the Ad Verification Module.
