  • Khronos Group logo The Khronos™ Group has publicly released the OpenMAX AL 1.0 specification, a royalty-free, cross-platform C-language API for high-performance multimedia applications on mobile and embedded devices. The OpenMAX AL standard simplifies deployment of hardware and software audio, video and imaging capabilities across any platform or operating system. OpenMAX AL enables developers to create rich media applications across a wide range of hardware devices. OpenMAX AL (Application Layer) enables native applications to be portable across multiple operating systems and hardware platforms by providing an extensive application-level API that enables high-level abstraction for comprehensive audio-visual media functionality. OpenMAX AL provides the ability to create and control player and recorder objects, connecting them to configurable input and output objects. Inputs and outputs include content readers and writers, headphones, loudspeakers, microphones, display windows, cameras, broadcast radios, LEDs and other types of A/V devices.


  • TV Innovation Awards banner The winners of this year’s TV Innovation Awards were announced during the TV 3.0 Summit at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills on October 6th.  There were 13 categories of awards presented, each representing the key technologies that will be necessary as the world moves towards TV 3.0. The winner of each category was then put forward to a final round of judging in which the overall Innovator of the Year was selected: This year the honor of Innovator of the Year went to Advanced Digital Broadcast (ADB). Here are the 2009 TV Innovation Award winners:
