ARINC... Airborne Data Link Delivery (SATCOM)

[SatNews] The first airline to take advantage of this Company's technology is a five-star carrier...

ARINC Incorporated has successfully launched its GLOBALink(sm) /Iridium Data Link communications service for Asiana Airlines, one of South Korea’s leading carriers. The ARINC Iridium-based service will allow Asiana Airlines to enjoy complete global voice service as well as Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS®) connectivity, to enhance delivery of operational information such as estimated time of arrival, position reports, and other key flight data pilots require. The new ARINC service was deployed in collaboration with International Communications Group (ICG) of Newport News, Virginia, and Avionics Support Group (ASG) of Miami. Florida. Equipage costs were kept to a minimum as no expensive upgrades or installations were required to launch the service for the airline.

GLOBALink is a seamless, end-to-end data link system that enables air crews to communicate and exchange information with ground crews and airline host systems anywhere in the world, without interruption. Data link provides clear, accurate, unambiguous data communications directly to flight crews, either via the cockpit multifunctional control display unit or via a printer. It also stores messages, allowing the crew to go back and check instructions. Compared with voice communications, data link communication improves flight deck processes and increases efficiency.

Asiana Airlines is one of South Korea’s major airlines and a member of Star Alliance. The carrier offers 516 daily departures throughout Asia, Europe, North America, and Oceania, and operates 14 domestic and 85 international passenger routes and 20 cargo routes. Asiana was named Airline of the Year in 2010 by Skytrax, and is one of only seven carriers in the world to be ranked a 5-Star airline.
