Tecore Offers A First For The Military

[SatNews] At MILCOM the first complete, multi-technology mobile network.

Tecore Networks®, supplier of mobile network infrastructure, introduced today the 4G evolution of its industry-leading Military-Secured iCore® platform, making it the world's first complete, multi-technology mobile network at Tecore Networks at MILCOM 2011, Booth #1521.

By incorporating the key components of the Evolved Packet Core (EPC) into the patented Core Network architecture, the iCore is able to provide its current 3G customers with a seamless, software-based migration from the current 2G and 3G networks toward 4G LTE.

This evolution offers the distinct benefit of supporting 2G, 3G and 4G technologies simultaneously, and on the same core; thus, avoiding the traditional side-by-side equipment deployment as the devices and network evolves. Given the terrain and limited space the military works in, this becomes a major advantage in the battlefield. As such, Tecore's Military-Secured Network in a Box (MilSec-NIB)™ is now loaded with the new technology and can integrate 3G and 4G protocols. "Coupled with the knowledge that Tecore's R&D is US-based, American troops on the field can be confident that they are equipped with the best, all-American, secured equipment," said Casey Joseph, CTO of Tecore Networks.

With only a software-upgrade, Tecore's iCore platform has become the optimal solution for military and government agencies deployment looking to integrate the forthcoming transition to 4G LTE, while supporting current generations of technology. From an embedded architecture in a man-portable military application, to carrier-grade, cloud-based networks supporting commercial scale and capacity, the iCore platform leverages a common software architecture.

The 4G LTE software upgrade consists of 3GPP compliant MME, S-GW, P-GW, PCRF, and HSS nodes designed and developed for unprecedented scalability, as well as co-existence with existing iCore 3G capabilities. This standards-based implementation supports connectivity to eNodeB access facilities from multiple vendors ranging from single site femto/pico applications to larger scale multi-site macro cell site implementations. The upgrade is available across the full line of Tecore's iCore products, including the NIB®, MilSec-NIB, RVS™, and iCore Macro systems.

"The addition of 4G LTE support to the Military-Secured iCore platform, along with the flexibility to support 3G technologies, will pay huge dividends for forward thinking military and government agencies," said Jay Salkini, CEO of Tecore Networks. "The iCore is now the cornerstone technology for building 3G and 4G military and government networks.
