[SatNews] The International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (“ITSO”) announced today its Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Jose Toscano, has been invited to become a founding Commissioner of the Broadband Commission for Digital Development. The Commission, established under the joint auspices of the International Telecommunication Union (“ITU”) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (“UNESCO”), is co-chaired by President Paul Kagame of the Republic of Rwanda and Dr. Carlos Slim, Chairman of the CARSO Foundation.

The ITSO has been charged with providing policy guidance to accelerate the global deployment of accessible, high speed broadband networks, in furtherance of the Millennium Development Goals set by the United Nations (“UN”) in the year 2000. The Commission’s final report is to be delivered to the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, in September 2010.
