Vizada Networks, a leading SATCOM and system integrator, has been selected by NC3A for the upgrade and expansion to its existing Air Command and Control System (Air C2) in Afghanistan for use by the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). The contract, which was signed in May of 2011, covers the design and final delivery within 52 weeks of a Radio-over -P (RoIP) system housed in CIS shelters to 16 sites in Afghanistan.

NATO Air Defence comprises all measures aimed at monitoring and reacting to potential air threats in NATO airspace as well as countering hostile air action. It encompasses a network of interconnected systems to detect, track and identify airborne objects, and - if necessary - to intercept them using maritime, ground-based or airborne weapons systems. The upgraded Air C2 network is intended to facilitate the planning, tasking and execution of all air missions, as well as support NATO’s deployed operations and missions. The enhanced capabilities provided by the Vizada Networks expansion and upgrade to the Air C2 system are intended to provide stronger capabilities to ISAF, including complete coverage across Afghanistan below 10,000ft. The contract was awarded based on Best Value determination (50/50 split between the weighted Technical and Commercial criteria) and features the development and delivery of 16 (one per site) 20ft CIS shelters with integrated RoIP & C2 systems.
