UAVs To Receive An Increased Ingestion Of DoD Budget Support

Defense Secretary Gates + Obama The chopping block — that's where the F-22 Raptors, the Prez chopper, and some armored vehicles have ended up within Defense Secretary Gates' recommended budget plan for the Department of Defense (DoD).

Also to be axed is the US$26B TSAT program, the C-17 aircraft, the bomber that was expected to replace the B-2, and a new combat S&R chopper. You can also expect some radical restructuring of the U.S. Army's Future Combat System, basically the expenditures surrounding the Manned Ground Vehicle (MGV) segment of the program, to the tune of US$87B. Boeing, Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems and General Dynamics Corp. are affected by these cuts. However, Lockheed Martin may find an offset, as the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter will now be on the fast track. Additionally, Predator and Reaper class UAVs will be the recipients of increased spending and, once again, Lockheed Martin could find income ingest from the UAV interest. Senator McCain (R-AZ) believes these decisions are right on target as he has long criticized a new Presidential helicopter as well as costly and (alleged) costly weapons systems. The order of battle for the Army will also be leveled off at 45 Brigade Combat Teams (BCT) instead of the planned 48, with troop levels to remain at 547,000. There will be expenditures of funds to recruit, train, and support aircrews and ground support teams for helicopter support to units that have been deployed. In regards to the TSAT terminations, two AEHF satellites will be deployed.
