Globecomm — Communication Verisimiltude For Vessels

Globecomm Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: GCOM) wholly-owned subsidiary, Telaurus Communications, has been awarded a three-year maritime managed services contract from Singapore based PACC Ship Managers Pte Ltd. Pursuant to the terms set forth in the contract, Telaurus will provide maritime fleet broadband terminals (FB500) and its se@COMM® maritime communications platform to 30 vessels trading worldwide.

The se@COMM® end-to-end solution manages the communication needs of a vessel master and shipping company. The latest release of se@COMM® not only provides a highly functional email solution for both the ship’s business and crew use, but also very effectively controls broadband connectivity so that the ship manager does not incur expensive charges due to unnecessary or non-approved data connections. Together with in-house value-added services and applications Telaurus provides a complete end-to-end maritime communications solution suite, thereby reducing operating costs and improving efficiencies at sea.

It provides the customer with the following benefits:
  • The price of sending each message is displayed prior to transmission making it easier to budget and control expenditures
  • Real-time data transfer
  • A single monthly bill for end-to-end communication services
  • se@SHIELD® an anti-virus application that provides protection against malicious threats
  • Web browsing in a totally controllable environment allowing private crew use paid from their se@CARDSM account
  • se@remote which allows IT managers or other authorized shore-based staff to conduct remote diagnostics and trouble-shooting thereby reducing the need for costly ship visits
  • A web-based Ship Management Tool that allows the ship’s shore-based management to monitor and control the vessel’s communications on a real-time basis.
Globecomm is now providing active managed services on more than 2,000 vessels through its maritime division.
