The MiniSite solution integrates a Gilat VSAT into an easy to deploy GSM Pico Site. This single integrated unit has low power consumption allowing solar power to be used. The new solution enables operators to cost-effectively expand coverage to remote areas which were not commercially viable until now.
The embedded VSAT is based on Gilat's high-performance SkyEdge II system with proven satellite backhaul technology. Satellite connectivity enables operators to provide GSM spot coverage in any remote location with lower CAPEX and OPEX costs. In addition to the efficiency benefits of Gilat's SkyEdge II system, the solution leverages Gilat's experience in providing advanced satellite communications solutions to rural communities, often including solar panel integration.
The GSM MiniSite solution incorporates advanced Abis Optimization, Abis over IP and Abis Local Connectivity. Gilat's DAMA (Demand Assigned Multiple Access) capabilities are key to achieving the savings that GSM Packet Abis provides. Gilat's SkyAbis cellular backhaul solution was certified by Ericsson as a key technology for GSM backhaul within Ericsson’s Radio Access Networks.
Doron Elinav, VP Marketing, Gilat Network Systems, said, “The GSM MiniSite solution, based on Gilat's cellular backhaul technology, allows operators to cost-effectively extend their services to new areas, creating greater revenue opportunities. The sophisticated optimization means more communications per bandwidth, resulting in less space segment for the same amount of traffic.”
