OnAir... A Flighty Award (SATCOM)

[SatNews] OnAir has been declared winner of the prestigious 'Technology Implementation of the Year Award' at the fourth annual Aviation Business Awards ceremony in Abu Dhabi.

The award recognizes innovation, improved services for passengers and outstanding implementation across the region. OnAir won the award for making available inflight the most extensive range ever of passenger connectivity services featuring Internet and mobile services - a combination never previously available to passengers (March 2010). Services were available aboard a new Oman Air Airbus A330. In addition, for the first time on a commercial flight, ACARS services were accessed via the same antenna as used for passenger connectivity services, and all delivered over Inmarsat-4 satellites. In the region, Emirates, Saudi Arabian Airlines, EGYPTAIR, Qatar Airways, Royal Jordanian and Wataniya Airways all have subsequently offered or plan to offer OnAir's connectivity services to their passengers. In August this year, CNBC Business magazine recognised OnAir as one of Europe's most creative companies for its pioneering of inflight mobile services.
