  • Moving On Up — EchoStar Corporation (NASDAQ: SATS) has appointed Joseph P. Clayton to the company’s board of directors, effective October 7. This appointment increases the size of EchoStar’s board from seven to eight members. Clayton was appointed to EchoStar’s board following the recommendation of the company’s Nominating Committee and will serve on the Audit, Nominating and Compensation Committees of the Board. Clayton served as chairman of Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. from November 2004 through July 2008 and served as chief executive officer of Sirius from November 2001 through November 2004. Prior to joining Sirius, Clayton served as president of Global Crossing North America, as president and chief executive officer of Frontier Corporation, and as executive vice president for Marketing and Sales for the Americas and Asia of Thomson S.A.

  • Business — ICO Global Communications (Holdings) Limited (ICO) (NASDAQ: ICOG) has announced their European subsidiary ICO Satellite Limited has filed an application with the European Commission (EC) in response to the Commission's call for applications for pan-European systems providing mobile satellite services. ICO has also initiated proceedings in the European Court of First Instance for the annulment of Decision No. 626/2008/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of June 30, 2008. ICO contends that Decision 626/2008/EC is illegal and therefore should be annulled, pursuant to Articles 230 and 231 of the Treaty establishing the European Community (EC Treaty).
