...Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has selected Space International Services, Ltd. (SIS) to launch the AMOS-4 commercial satellite. The launch is scheduled to take place in 2013 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. AMOS-4 will offer customers DTH, video distribution, VSAT communications, and broadband Internet services with multiple Ku- and Ka-band transponders. Once the satellite is launched, Spacecom will reach a large portion of the world's population, positioning the company as a near-global satellite services provider.
AMOS-4 will be the second AMOS satellite launched by SIS on its Zenit-3SLB launch vehicle. AMOS-3 was launched to its 4 degrees West orbital position in 2008 on the same vehicle. AMOS-4's launch weight will be approximately 4.2 tons, demonstrating that SIS has significantly increased the Zenit-3SLB vehicle's performance since the AMOS-3 launch.
"AMOS-4 will expand and deepen our brand penetration into new regions. With new capabilities and enhanced technologies, the satellite will bring us into Russia’s and Asia's growing markets, and propel Spacecom to the forefront of emerging near-global satellite operators,” said Spacecom president and CEO David Pollack. “We are excited to be working once again with our partners at SIS and IAI, and are looking forward to the scheduled launch and commencement of commercial activities."
