Word is out, beginning in June there will be four channels on DirecTV dedicated to 3D content, which are; ESPN 3D, a 3D-only channel called N3D; one 3D pay-per view channel, and one 3D DirecTV on Demand.

The 2010 World Cup will be presented on ESPN 3D, debuting as the first major sporting event broadcast in 3D, while DirecTV will provide 25 World Cup matches in 3D. ESPN will also provide 85 live sports events in 3D beginning June 11. In addition, the XGames, college basketball, some NBA games 2011 BCS National Championship game and college football's ACC championship games will join the throng. ESPN 3D is a free upgrade for DirecTV customers who already subscribe to ESPN. The other 3D programming is available to all DirecTV subscribers as a free upgrade, but will only be useful to customers with a 3D TV. Last week, Cablevision broadcast a National Hockey League game in 3D to subscribers in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

It is reported that ND3 will be sort of a catch-all 3D channel with content from Fox, NBC, MTV, CBS (the publisher of CNET), HDNet, and Turner Broadcasting. The TVs that will transmit in 3D include Panasonic, Sony, and Samsung will have several models of 3D TVs for sale by June.
