[SatNews] FleetBroadband 505 Emergency Calling has won the Safety At Sea International Award for helping seafarers in distress. The prestigious annual awards, announced this year at a ceremony on board HMS Belfast in London, recognize the contribution made by management, equipment, security, training and systems providers to the safety of seafarers worldwide.
The new 505 facility, representing "SOS" , is a short code dialling scheme available on any FleetBroadband terminal that directs the emergency call to a Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre (MRCC). Each Inmarsat satellite region has a nominated MRCC, which assesses the call and directs details to a suitable rescue co-ordination centre near to the scene of the incident.
