  • MOVING ON UP — Asia Broadcast Satellite (ABS) has appointed Srini Prasanna as Vice President Business Development and he'll be responsible for developing strategies and identifying opportunities with key service providers across the region. He will also focus on market entry strategy for ABS-2 satellite, securing commercial business opportunities and establishing strategic partnerships within the coverage areas of ABS-2. Mr. Prasanna was working previously as a consultant for promoting sales of ABS-1 capacity in Africa and the Middle East and has been closely involved in helping to develop the business plan and strategy for the ABS-2 program. Mr. Prasanna has 34 years of experience in the telecommunications industry covering a full spectrum of services and disciplines. He spent over 8 years at New Skies Satellites as Vice President of Sales for Indian subcontinent, Middle East and Africa (IMEA) and he also worked at Intelsat for more than 23 years, holding various technical and management positions.

  • SES AMERICOM's IP PRIME homepage BUSINESS — SES AMERICOM and Canby Telcom, a member of the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC), have announced that Canby’s IPTV customers can now access 36 channels of HD programming, including more than two dozen channels delivered to Canby via IP-PRIME. IP-PRIME delivers a comprehensive roster of high-quality standard and HD programming in MPEG-4 format to operators via a single satellite antenna. The IP-PRIME HD-4TM service delivers up to 40 national HD channels to operators looking to add high quality HD programming to their existing IPTV service. In addition to the HD-4 offering, the IP-PRIME full transport solution offers hundreds of programming channels to operators without the high capital and operating expenses required to build and operate an IPTV headend.

  • SSPI Future Leaders Dinner banner AWARDS — The Society of Satellite Professionals International (SSPI) has selected David Cavossa, Vice President, SATCOM, Arrowhead Global Solutions; Nick Mitsis, Manager, Corporate Communications, Intelsat and Yvette Dominguez, Manager, Payload Design Section, Space Systems/Loral, to be honored with "Promise Awards". These awards recognize young leaders in the satellite communications industry. Dick Tauber, Vice President CNN Satellite and Transmission Technologies, CNN News Group, was selected as SSPI's "Mentor Award" recipient, honoring his years of contributions to the industry nurturing and mentoring rising young professionals. SSPI's 3rd annual Future Leaders Dinner will be held Tuesday, Oct. 14th, at The 3 West Club in Manhattan. The evening kicks off with a reception at 5:30 PM (ET) immediately following the ISCe Satellite Investment Symposium (ISIS NYC '08). A portion of the proceeds from the banquet and awards ceremony will go to SSPI’s educational fund for scholarship and intern grants for students aiming for careers in the satellite industry.
