Weather Sat On Tap For ISRO

Mehga Tropiques satellite (ISRO_CNES) The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is expected to launch a new weather satellite, the 'Mehga Tropiques' during 2009.

The satellite has been developed via a collaboration with India and the French space agency CNES (Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales). The satellite is designed to analyze tropical data and the causes of cyclones, monsoons, and other climate and weather related phenomenon. ISRO chairman G. Madhavan Nair stated Megha Tropiques is a mini-satellite with a weight of 500 kilograms and will bring a multi-frequency microwave scanning radiometer (MADRAS) to study humidity levels in the atmosphere. The satellite is expected to be launched via a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) at ISRO's launchpad at Sriharikota. The original agreement for this satellite was signed between ISRO and CNES on November 12th in 2004.
