LRIT compliance became mandatory on the first of January. Thousands of vessels worldwide are now required to be LRIT compliant, that is, they must have an LRIT system that will automatically report their position to their Flag Administration at least four times a day. The IMO regulation applies to all vessels engaging in international voyages of the following types: passenger ships including high speed craft irrespective of size, cargo ships exceeding 300 gross tonnage, and mobile offshore drilling units.
Sandy Lumsden, EMS Satamatics’ product manager, said, “This is yet another significant milestone for EMS Satamatics that underlines our long-term commitment to the maritime market to offer fully compliant, Type Approved, low-cost solutions. EMS Satamatics is rapidly becoming the preferred choice of ship owners for affordable LRIT compliance.”
