More — From EMS Satamatics, Germanischer Lloyd Maritime Compliance

Sat cargo ship Kudos to EMS Satamatics for receiving the successful Type Approval by Germanischer Lloyd of the SAT-201i-Long Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) solution. This follows EMS Satamatics Ocean Alert(tm) Ship Security Alert System (SSAS)/LRIT which gained the same certification as we at SatNews reported last week.

LRIT compliance became mandatory on the first of January. Thousands of vessels worldwide are now required to be LRIT compliant, that is, they must have an LRIT system that will automatically report their position to their Flag Administration at least four times a day. The IMO regulation applies to all vessels engaging in international voyages of the following types: passenger ships including high speed craft irrespective of size, cargo ships exceeding 300 gross tonnage, and mobile offshore drilling units.

sat 201 The SAT-201i-LRIT solution’s small size allows it to be discreetly placed on board ships when security is paramount. The solution enables vessel compliance with the LRIT SOLAS regulation V/19-1. This complete solution is an economical standalone product and works well for vessels with either non-compliant equipment or with prohibitively high upgrade costs on existing hardware. It is sold as a complete solution with everything required for a full installation included from the core out-of-the-box pre-configured terminal to the required cable.

Sandy Lumsden, EMS Satamatics’ product manager, said, “This is yet another significant milestone for EMS Satamatics that underlines our long-term commitment to the maritime market to offer fully compliant, Type Approved, low-cost solutions. EMS Satamatics is rapidly becoming the preferred choice of ship owners for affordable LRIT compliance.”
