Tachyon Networks In SW Asia-Afghanistan Provides Big Sat Service With Ultra-Small Aperture Terminal

Tachyon Networks today announced the availability of new end-to-end fixed and mobile broadband satellite communications solutions for Southwest Asia, including Afghanistan. The Tachyon solution includes high power capacity, ground-based infrastructure, ultra-small aperture terminal (USAT) equipment and managed network services operating in its Ku-band beams, achieving mobile data rates of 512 Kbps moving to 2.8 Mbps.

Demand for satellite based broadband communication services in Southwest Asia, especially for Comms-on-the-Move (COTM) applications, has grown significantly in recent years. However, lack of supply of broadband satellite capacity with sufficient power has thwarted market growth. Tachyon has addressed this market demand by acquiring the Intelsat IS-24 spacecraft, moving it from 4ºW to 47.3ºE and placing into an inclined orbit. The 56 dBW EIRP and 16 dBK G/T characteristics of the Ku-Band payload, coupled with Tachyon’s USAT equipment and service, meet the unique and specialized demand for COTM in Southwest Asia.

“Tachyon is extremely pleased to be able to offer this new ultra high performance satellite capacity that is uniquely suited to aeronautical broadband applications such as high definition full motion video for airborne comms-on-the-move,” stated Peter Carides, CEO of Tachyon. “Tachyon is dedicated to offering our customers the highest level of satellite industry expertise, the best remote network solutions for their applications, and the most reliable managed services available.  For our customers operating in Southwest Asia, the unique capacity and mobile capabilities enabled by this spacecraft are absolutely critical.

Along with the space segment capacity and service, Tachyon offers engineering services and ground-based infrastructure to address current and future custom communications needs globally. Tachyon supplies terminals supporting data, voice and full-motion HD video connectivity for highly mobile applications.
