SatBroadcasting: Demos @ IBC2009 For OTT + Pull VOD From OpenTV Corp.


OpenTV logo OpenTV Corp. (NASDAQ:OPTV) will demo advanced support for Pull VOD as well as Over-the-Top (OTT) video as part of the company’s IBC2009 showcase in Hall 1 Stand C81. Visitors to the OpenTV stand will be able to see how the solution enables network operators to offer on-demand content by leveraging their subscribers’ existing broadband connection, creating a platform for easy and cost-effective deployment of nexgen services. Highlights of OpenTV’s Pull VOD / OTT support include:
  • Standard integration with Content Delivery Network (CDN) infrastructure and Internet Web servers using any HTTP-based server and CDN, minimizing the need for specialized and costly servers or infrastructure
  • A flexible container format that works with any content type: VOD products, video and audio assets targeted to portable devices and standalone applications
  • Flexible business rule support to manage local content availability window but also implement model based on targeted advertising
  • Bandwidth management tools such as the ability to schedule and prioritize downloads and to manage delivery of multiple content streams to the set-top box simultaneously without negatively affecting the user experience
  • OpenTV’s progressive download technology, which enables viewing of Pull VOD content during download, providing a streaming VOD experience to users, and allowing operators to launch a revenue-generating service in a low-cost way
  • Web video content integration to enhance the broadcast content experience by offering relevant supporting materials such as actor screen tests, promotional photos and movie reviews
These features are part of the latest release of OpenTV Core2 middleware and will be some of the many highlights of OpenTV’s IBC 2009 showcase.
