T-VIPS... Opening The Gateway (SatBroadcasting™)

T-VIPS, a global leader in professional video contribution and distribution solutions, has announced that its TVG450 JPEG2000 Gateway solution has been selected by Forthnet, the largest private broadband and satellite service provider in Greece. The system delivers high quality IP transport solutions and will be used for the implementation of Forthnet‘s new business service; “TV Circuits On Demand”. Forthnet’s new service will transfer video content from stadiums or any other fixed locations across the country over its FO network to the Nova media center in Athens. Nova is a Forthnet owned satellite and terrestrial broadcaster. Forthnet will also be using T-VIPS Connect to manage the contribution network. The solution was delivered in close cooperation with T-VIPS’ Greek Partner OmniWave Ltd. and was selected after extensive field trials.

Nova is a digital satellite payTV platform owned by Forthnet Group. The Group constitutes of Forthnet, the largest private broadband company in Greece, as well as Forthnet Media Holdings and Multichoice Hellas (Nova), the largest private providers of radio-television subscription services in the country. Nova offers Greek subscribers an array of international and domestic SD and HD programs, including live broadcasting of Greek Super League football games, and the majority of popular Greek TV channels. The Group now holds the broadcasting rights for TV, internet, mobile and radio transmission, covering the territories of Greece, Cyprus and Albania, and all 16 Super League teams.

Designed for real-time contribution and distribution of broadcast quality video over IP networks, the TVG450 enables transmission of compressed HDTV and SD television over Gigabit Ethernet and provides increased density, with up to one 3G-SDI, two HD-SDI or four SDI channels in each unit. TVG450 takes advantage of the unmatched quality of JPEG2000 compression combined with the inherent flexibility of IP to offer broadcasters an efficient, affordable and scalable solution for studio quality high definition video contribution. TVG450 is compact, cost-effective, supports lossless and visually lossless compression and has user-friendly configuration and control. Key features include:
