Inmarsat... Telemetry Tie-In (SATCOM)

[SatNews] Inmarsat will launch a new service later this year.

The new service is designed for sending telemetry data via FleetBroadband. The Dynamic Telemetry Service (DTS) will allow cost-effective transmission of the constant low-data communications (used by telemetry and tracking solutions) from all FleetBroadband terminals. It will support a range of applications, from engine management systems on deep-sea tankers sending real-time data to shore-based specialists, to vessel monitoring systems for fisheries protection. The service will also be suitable for the Long-Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) and Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) currently used for safety and security worldwide. DTS will allow users to choose which telemetry data they retrieve over FleetBroadband, enabling technical and operational experts on shore to collect the data they most need to investigate an issue. It will also send information in accordance with pre-set parameters, or by alarms generated by onboard systems. FleetBroadband DTS will be available via low-cost subscription through Inmarsat's network of distribution partners around the world.
