Verily, VSAT Goes Modular With Gilat

Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. has announced the commercial availability of its new modular VSAT platform, SkyEdge II Access, enabling converged services such as broadband IP, voice, video and multicasting.

SkyEdge II Access provides high performance satellite-based communications for business, government, maritime and rural deployments. Supporting high-speed inbound data rates of more than 6Mbps, SkyEdge II Access is the only DVB-S2/ACM VSAT with expansion slots. Such will enable service providers to enhance their offering with additional embedded functionality. For example, with SkyEdge II Access, service providers will be able to provide multiple telephony channels, digital signage, and web TV, mesh and rapidly-deployed Wi-Fi Hot Spots. Plug-in cards can be upgraded in the field by service providers or even by end-users. The new platform does not require external boxes and all expansion ports can be easily managed, fully controlled and updated remotely from the Network Management System.
