Thuraya... 20K Is The Expectation...


Thuraya has now sold around 8,000 Thuraya XT units since the start of 2010 and expects to sell a total of 20,000 units by the end of the year. By the end of the first Quarter 2010, the Company sold approximately 4,000 XT phones, and there are confirmed orders for April of 4,000 units.

According to the Thuraya sales team, the expectation is for the market take-up of the XT phone to exceed 20,000 units by end of the year. Thuraya XT sales have been spread over several markets, including Libya, Afghanistan, Sudan, Iran and Saudi Arabia in vertical sectors such as oil and gas, military, government, NGOs, broadcast media, large corporates and maritime who are Thuraya’s main customer base. The phone is unique in its capabilities and features, especially with its combo of robustness and size. Weighing only 193 grams, the phone is very handy to use and designed to withstand the harshest of environments.

In terms of performance, Thuraya XT has several features such as data services with download speeds of 60 kbps allowing users to connect to the internet when connected to a lab top. In addition, the phone has GPS navigation and is the most sleek, robust satellite phone currently on the market. Thuraya XT provides high quality service because it is backed by Thuraya’s robust network that covers 140 countries in Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia, and Australia.
