No Woohoos For Wallops, Again

Minotaur No you're not reading yesterday's news. Officials have decided to scrub tonight's scheduled launch of a satellite-carrying rocket from NASA's Wallops Island launch pad in Virginia because of bad weather in the area.

The launch of the Minotaur rocket from Wallops has been scheduled for Friday, May 8. The launch window is 8 to 11 p.m. The 69-foot Minotaur I rocket had been scheduled to launch on May 7 between 8 and 11 p.m. from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility. The launch was scrubbed this evening due to weather issues.

They are not working any problems with the launch vehicle, spacecraft or the range at the time of the decision to stop tonight's launch attempt. The Air Force TacSet-3 is designed to detect hidden enemy weapons and inform U.S. troops of their location. Scientists say the 880-pound satellite atop the $60 million rocket will offer hyperspectral images and deliver them in 10 minutes.

Military officials say if the satellite is successful, it could be ready for battlefield use in a year or two.
