Newtec's Box of PEP Has Paid Off With CSI Product of the Year


PEP box Newtec, an innovator in the satellite and communications industry received a Cable & Satellite International (CSI) Product of the Year Award 2008 during a ceremony held at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) this last week in Amsterdam. The award's category was “best playout/connectivity service/solution” for its Mobile PEP-Box ® Terminal EL810, formerly known as PEP-Box ® 1000.

The CSI Product of the Year Awards 2008 are among the most comprehensive and competitive technology awards, designed to reward technical and product marketing excellence in the cable, satellite, terrestrial broadcasting and IPTV sectors. They are organized by the CSI magazine and are attributed during IBC, Europe’s most important exhibition for the cable, satellite, terrestrial, and IPTV broadcast industries. The awards are judged independently of CSI by a panel of experts that includes heads of engineering and operations from some of the world's leading network operators, well-respected consultants and senior industry analysts.

The EL810 Mobile PEP-Box® Terminal is a Performance Enhancing Proxy (PEP) appliance that combines a number of advanced IP traffic enhancement, traffic compression and IP security functionalities. This palm-size appliance is a fully integrated USB-powered accelerator which is primarily targeted for optimizing mobile satellite and VSAT services. The embedded HTTP prefetching technology enhances the web surfing experience to an extent that the download time for a web site can be reduced by more than 70 percent, so that the user has the impression of surfing via a regular DSL or cable-based Internet connection.
