Being Short-Listed By The ESA Is A Good Thing For Logica

Image of Galileo Logica is one of two companies short-listed by the European Space Agency (ESA) for the System Support component of the 2.1 billion euros Galileo procurement and one of two companies short-listed for the Ground Mission Segment (GMS). ESA will now engage with the short-listed companies in what is called “competitive negotiation”, leading to final contractor selection by December 2008 for System Support and early 2009 for GMS. Logica has put together a strong European team and is building on its historical expertise with the ESA, being the largest independent supplier to the Galileo program, having been selected for over 70 million euros of software-intensive ground segment contracts during the In-Orbit Validation (IOV) phase. Logica has almost 40 years experience in space, covering ground-breaking programs such as the Giotto spacecraft to Halley’s Comet, and the Huygens probe that landed on Titan. The GMS is at the heart of Galileo, determining the navigation message that is fundamental to the system, and transmitting it to the satellites. The System Support team will assist the ESA to procure, deploy, test, and operate Galileo, and ensure that the system is delivered to specification. The work will involve experts in all aspects of the Galileo system, supported by simulation tools, and will require experience in managing and testing complex hi-tech programs.
