[SatNews] Avanti Communications Group plc (AIM: AVN), the broadband satellite operator, has been selected by Nottingham Scientific Limited (NSL) to provide support to the first phase of its IRISS (Intelligent Railways via Integrated Satellite Services) project. IRISS will develop and demonstrate a pre-commercial service with a British train operator involving a number of applications including tracking and tracing of rail stock on routes across the UK. Satellite communications will be used to provide connectivity in rural areas where there is a lack of terrestrial communications infrastructure.
