Additionally, the inability of Space Florida to complete a launch pad rebuild project after $14.5 million in a state appropriation was awarded to the agency resulted in state auditor criticism of Kohler's inability to create a viable business plan, as not a single rocket firm (as of this writing) has come forward to sign a contract to use the facilities.
In a letter to the chairman of the Space Florida board, that being Florida Lieutenant Governor Jeff Kottkamp, Mr. Kohler indicated a combination of media coverage centered on Space Florida and on his performance created distractions that compromised momentum for the agency. To remove the unfair distractions, Kohler then resigns, effective May 8th. A copy of his resignation letter is included below.
