TeleCommunication Systems... GSM For Guard (Comms)


[SatNews] Looks like a new GSM systems will soon be en route to the National Guard in Florida.

TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS) has received a contract from the Florida National Guard to design and deliver a deployable Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) solution. The $3.8 million contract award includes three years of continued support. TCS will provide rapidly deployable GSM systems, training, maintenance and field support which enhances the state's emergency response capabilities by allowing the Florida National Guard to communicate during emergencies when commercial networks are down. Partnering with SiRRAN Communications Inc., TCS will implement a GSM solution that delivers a self- contained, privately managed, mobile cellular communications network with 3GPP standards. Officially named the GSM Cellular Communications Capabilities for The Florida National Guard Joint Incident Site Communications Capability Systems (JISCC-FL), the solution will enable personnel to rapidly deploy voice, short-message service (SMS), and data communications. In less than 10 minutes, a user can establish a fully functional GSM network. The TCS GSM solution adds critical new capabilities to the Florida National Guard toolkit by providing a cellular infrastructure that can seamlessly integrate with existing handsets without modification. The GSM systems will augment the 17 larger Florida National Guard Regional Emergency Response Network (RERN) systems.
