SMPTE... Moving On Up and Moving Forward...


[SatBroadcasting(tm)] New appointments have been made to the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) Board of Governors, including Dr. Hans Hoffmann, who becomes the first European in nearly 40 years to serve as Engineering Vice President, and Richard Welsh who becomes the organization’s new Governor for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Central & South America Region.

In recent SMPTE elections, Wendy Aylsworth, who previously served as Engineering VP, becomes the SMPTE Executive Vice President, the first woman to be elected to that post in the history of SMPTE, and Pete Lude becomes the new President.

In SMPTE event news, the Society today announced that it will hold its annual DCS Conference at NAB on April 9th through 11th, 201, at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This year’s event is titled Advanced in Images and Sound: 3D, 4K, and Beyond and will address topics across the cinema, broadcast and broadband industries. Join the world’s leading motion-imaging researchers, scientists, practitioners and manufacturers in learning more about developments in 3D motion and sound as well as innovations in ultra-HD capture and display and the latest developments and industry strategies. Finally, SMPTE today also announced the dates and Call for Papers for its Second International Stereoscopic 3D Conference. To be heldJune 21 through 22, 2010, in New York City, this year’s event follows last year’s successful inaugural conference and is the only scientific gathering to focus solely on the critical technologies needed for widespread and sustained 3D adoption. Conference registration opens February 15, 2011. Abstracts must be received by February 28, 2011.
