The Defence Ministry of Thailand wishes to develop and produce a squadron of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) for the air forces of the country. The project has three main objectives: first, the acquisition and development of small UAVs; secondly, this will be followed by a shift towards medium-large aircraft; and finally, the country wants to have the ability to build UAVs domestically, restricting or eliminating entirely the country's restrict or entirely eliminate dependency on imports.
The three categories of aircraft under consideration are: a smaller UAV with endurance/range of not more than 1-1/2 hours (or 15 km), a ceiling of 1220 meters, speed not exceed 55km/h, and a payload of 5 kg; a medium one with an endurance/range of 2-1/2 hours or 30 km, a ceiling of 1524 meters, and speed of 93 km/h and 10kg payload; and finally, a larger one with endurance/range of 6 hours or 100 km, ceiling of 3048 meters, speed of 111km/h and a payload of 25kg.
