The Satellite Industry Association (SIA) announces a half-day workshop focusing on the role of satellites for Public Safety and Disaster Relief at the upcoming IWCE 2010 in Las Vegas, NV on March 9, 2010.
SIA’s “Satellites to the Rescue” will include an overview of satellite communications within the public safety arena, case studies of satellites as part of emergency preparedness and disaster relief, as well as the regulatory issues and future of satellite communications and applications pertaining to public safety. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, March 9th, 2010 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Room S231.
“Satellite technology is regularly at the fore of any emergency communications effort, and the extraordinary relief and reconstruction reaction to Haiti’s devastating earthquake are no exception,” noted SIA President, Patricia Cooper. “SIA’s members, and the satellite industry as a whole, have and will continue to support the U.S. and Haitian governments, the U.S. military, relief agencies and media outlets working tirelessly in Haiti. This workshop will help with lessons learned for other situations and explore long-term solutions to emergency preparedness for the future.”
