Globecomm Systems — Becomes A Better Host For Mobile 3G

Globecomm Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: GCOM) has invested in a 3G core switch to expand its managed wireless business to offer affordable, 3G hosted mobile services to under-serviced areas worldwide. The 3G services include voice, video, and data services and further enhance Globecomm’s rapidly growing hosted switch, roaming and managed network service businesses.

Carriers will now have access to broadened wireless coverage through Globecomm’s carrier-class 3G switch platform without a major capital or operational investment. With full redundancy for all major components, the switch, which entered service in November 2009, provides a 100 percent IP-based soft-switch architecture with a forward path to 4G technologies. The switch core has a capacity to service more than 1,000,000 subscribers. To support the new switch, Globecomm installed dedicated power systems in its Network Operations Center in Hauppauge, New York, where technicians and engineers provide 24/7 network-monitoring and customer support. Redundant fiber circuits and generator systems support the Globecomm facility.
