International Datacasting + Verimatrix... @ NAB 2013 With... (SatBroadcasting™—Event)

[SatNews] International Datacasting Corporation (TSX:IDC) and Verimatrix have joined forces to provide DTH operators with...

...a new solution to help them launch new IPTV services and add subscribers within multi-dwelling units (MDUs). Both companies will demonstrate this new offering at the 2013 NAB Show, April 8 - 11, at the Las Vegas Convention Center (Booth SU3711). This new solution fully integrates the IDC Digital Tattoo DTH Over IP Gateway with the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS(™)) for DVB, featuring cardless content and revenue security for broadcast (one-way) networks. It enables fully encrypted end-to-end delivery of satellite television to customers living in MDUs such as apartment buildings, apartments, condominiums, schools campuses, hotels, gated communities and healthcare facilities. Today, 24 to 65 percent of all households around the world are within MDUs, representing a large market opportunity for DTH operators.

With this combined solution, DTH operators can partner with a Telco, wireless provider or ISP to offer a triple play package which includes television, internet and voice-over-IP. "This provides the basis for new value-added services for DTH operators and helps them access previously hard-to-reach customers," said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales & marketing officer at Verimatrix. "In addition to increasing the ARPU (Average Revenue Per User), it eliminates in-building signal theft and allows users to select their own programming packages. Achieving subscriber and ARPU growth while reducing churn and simultaneously enhancing revenue security is a magic mix in this market."

The IP distribution of this integrated system can be over wired Ethernet to serve buildings and campuses or via IP distribution over fiber systems such as GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) to serve larger geographies. Two customers worked with IDC and Verimatrix as beta sites in the development of this new solution. One of these customers, an Asian DTH provider, launched Digital Tattoo to IP STBs already integrated with Verimatrix conditional access resulting in a quick time-to-market and substantial cost efficiencies.
